3 Tips to Make Your HVAC System More Efficient

Did you know that your HVAC system can account for more than 48% of your energy bill? Throughout the entire year, you rely on your system for cooling and heating your home. You also rely on the system to move air efficiently through your home, keeping mold, pet dander, and dust out of the air. But how can you tell if your HVAC system is running efficiently? For starters, an infrared inspection from AccuSpect Inspections will help, but so will these other helpful tips.

1. Use a Smart Thermostat

If your home’s thermostat is outdated and still analog, then it might be time to upgrade. The older the thermostat, the more energy your HVAC system could be using. Installing a smart thermostat will help save energy, which will then help you save some cash. In fact, units that carry the Energy Star seal can save you as much as 8% on your next energy bill.

2. Seal Air Leaks

One of the biggest energy wasters in a home is small air leaks in the HVAC system. When your ducts don’t line up correctly or have cracks, warm and cold air leaks into other areas of your home. This means you could be wasting time cooling and heating a crawl space or attic, which isn’t efficient for the system. So, if you have access to your ducts, make sure you seal up any leaks you can find.

3. Use Curtains

This may seem like a simple fix, but the drapery you choose to use around your windows can really increase the efficiency of your HVAC system. The thicker the material, the more likely you will keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Unfortunately, many people use thin, whispy curtains, allowing more air to escape through the windows, especially in older homes.
